Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is Spark?

Spark is all about bringing the community together. We are now a charity and were founded in the summer of 2015 by passionate local parents and grandparents. We’re made up of local people who care about our community and who enjoy pregnancy, early years, and family activities and support. We provide a wide range of groups, sessions and services.

Q: What happens at Spark?

We have a regular timetable of activities such as playgroups, support groups, outdoor sessions, social groups and courses. We also run special events. Sign up for Spark membership to receive updates (opt in to Upshot emails) and check our Facebook page and website to stay up to date with everything that’s going on.

Q: Do you have disabled access?

Yes, we do. We have disabled parking spaces, ramp access to the centre, wide doors, accessible toilets and seating areas. We’re more than happy to help with any specific queries or requirements where we can, so please get in touch.

Q: Do you have parking?

Yes, we have parking available on site (please note this is closed between 8:30–9:00am and 2:45–3:30pm). Parking can also be found on the surrounding roads, but please be mindful of our local residents and their access to homes and driveways.

Q: Can I feed my baby?

Yes, of course! Spark is a breastfeeding-friendly and family-focused venue. We have plenty of comfortable chairs for feeding, as well as highchairs and small tables and chairs for snacks and meals.

Q: Why are some groups free and others charged for?

As a charity, we apply for funding to run sessions for families. We do our very best to offer as much as possible free of charge, or at a very low cost. We also have our free pass scheme available for most sessions (please ask us if you’d like more information). When we do charge, we aim to keep costs as low as possible.

Q: What is a free pass?

We want everyone to be able to come to Spark, whatever their circumstances. That’s why we offer free pass access. If you meet the criteria, most paid-for groups can be attended free of charge. Examples of eligibility include single parents, under-21s, families who meet the free school meals criteria and more. Please see the specific poster, check our sign-up sheet or message us if you’re unsure. We do require proof to apply the free pass—without this, we won’t be able to verify your free pass membership.

Q: Do you take donations?

Yes—financial donations are very welcome and gratefully accepted. We also accept baby and children’s items including books, shoes and nappies, which can be left at reception. For other or larger items, please contact the Baby Bank directly to arrange delivery or collection.

Q: Can you tell us more about the Baby Bank?

The Spark Baby and Children’s Bank is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays during term time, between 10am–12pm. You can also contact Nicky via Facebook at Spark Baby and Children’s Bank, or by emailing babybank@sparkburntwood.org. You’ll find the Baby Bank in the blue cabin with the giant Gruffalo on the side, in the Spark car park.

Q: Do you have to join to attend sessions?

Yes, we have an online membership form for you to fill in. Joining Spark is completely free, and membership helps us run our activities safely. You can sign up via our website, by scanning the QR codes around the centre, or a group leader can send you the sign-up link.

Q: Can I hire Spark?

Yes, you can hire Spark during evenings or weekends for parties, groups or even just to meet up with friends.
